"CALIFORNIA HAS SOME OF THE GREATEST RIVERS"

by Raymond Majewski
(New Jersey )

CALIFORNIA HAS SOME OF THE GREATEST RIVERS If you’re interested in an outdoor adventure like no other, and if you are not timid around water, then California has some of the best rafting opportunities than any other state.

Though some states have outstanding rivers in their own right, there is no other state that has as many whitewater river stretches as does California.

California is teeming with whitewater rivers catering to all levels from about the middle part of the state and upwards.

The Kern River is the closest river to the Los Angeles area, with a distance that takes about three hours driving time. The Kern River has a wide array of sections itself, all catering to the levels of any type of whitewater enthusiast. Ranging in rapids from Class II to Class V, this is a river that should not be missed. Many outfitters abound in this section, and each have their own unique brand of trips.

Kern River Outfitters and Sierra South are just two such examples, and all are located not far from the beautiful town of Kernville.

There are a few rivers close to the Yosemite area, especially the renowned Merced and Tuolumne Rivers. The Kaweah and the Kings Rivers are also nearby. No whitewater stretches exist in the park itself, though they are very close by. The same can be said about the Lake Tahoe area, though the runnable stretches are a bit farther.

The American River is probably the most known, and there is also the Yuba and a few different stretches of the Stanislaus. A number of rivers abound in the California upstate, including the Klamath which is right along the California and Oregon border. These are just some exampes of the many rivers you could find within the state of California, and there are many more to be found if you do a search.

There are lots and lots of rafting outfitters to choose from, so be sure that you do a bit of research on each for the river that you want to explore. All in all, if you like to raft the raging rapids, then California is the state for you.
