Here are our Cancun tips, that I hope will assist you in planning your travel in Cancun. My wife had suggested she would like to try a vacation trip to Cancun after she had spoke with several people that had strongly recommend the Mexican City.

We arrived in Cancun by air at the Cancun International Airport (IATA:CUN) and after clearing customs, we were hounded by various venders while searching for our transportation which we found just outside the terminal. SO, I recommend brushing them off and get out of the terminal and locate your transportation.

The Cancun hotel zone was built around the tourist industry, but in downtown Cancun you will find the real Mexican City with many markets, clubs, shopping centers, and restaurants.

If you are seeking adventure, fun in the sun and scuba diving we recommend that you go and hour or so south of Cancun where the beaches are less crowded.

The best way to get around in Cancun is done by bus. Buses are cheap and come frequently at the bus stops. Most bus drivers understand English.

We found English is spoken in the tourist area but if you venture out to explore, you should brush up on Spanish.

We found the US dollars were widely accepted in Cancun, and you can find the best exchange rate from US to Pesos at any bank or money exchange. We found our credit card was accepted at the larger shops.

Prior to leaving to Cancun, we found that we did not need to be vaccinated before entering Mexico. You will find local hospitals and clinics will accept you health insurance but please check with your provider.

I truly recommend drinking only bottle water even though some hotels have water purifying systems. Make sure you wash your fruits and vegetables before you eat. In the tourist areas the restaurants will wash them since it is their business to cater to you.

I strongly recommend you watch out for heat stroke by keeping hydrated with bottle water and apply sunscreen throughout the day. We love the water and the beach and there is nothing worse than getting heat stroke. So if you feel dizzy, headaches and weak, drink more water in get into the shade.

Cancun is considered a safe city for its size comparable to small US cities. Most of the violent crime that has been reported recently is in the Mexico City area. If you are traveling along the Caribbean Coast of Mexico you will find it safe.

We hope you found these Cancun travel tips helpful.
