Devil's Tower
My favorite travel destination is quite different from most people. I absolutely love going to see Devil's Tower located in Wyoming. I live in Ohio and it is roughly a 24-hour trip to drive to Wyoming by car. This place holds a very special place in my heart because I was originally born and grew up in Gillette, Wyoming. In addition, I have a strong love for movies. Devil's Tower was featured as the site where alien’s arrive to earth in Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. You can see Devil’s Tower from several miles away from the actual site. There is literally nothing but bare land and blue skies along the trip. Roughly one mile from the Tower, there is a visitor center with brochures and shopping available for all the people that come from all over the world to visit. President Theodore Roosevelt named Devil’s Tower the first National Monument of his presidency in 1906. When you finally arrive to the tower, the monument is several stories high. There are several large boulders surrounding the base of the Tower. It is a lot of fun hiking along the trail surrounding Devil’s Tower. Not only will you see the entire Tower as you walk around it, but there are signs posted for the trees and other foliage that are rare to the area, but surprisingly grow at the foot of Devil’s Tower. This site is wonderful for any nature lover or someone looking to see such a rare sight!
