Lake Cayuga, Ithaca, New York

A Hidden Gem My favorite travel destination is Ithaca, NY. Lake Cayuga is absolutely gorgeous and extremely peaceful. There is nothing quite like waking up on a beautiful body of water. I also love the surrounding area. There is a nice downtown with amazing food in the Ithaca Commons, and tons of wineries in driving distance. Some of the wineries are even in walking distance. The local farms make for wonderful and fresh produce, and the local people are extremely kind. The area is also great for art lovers who want to explore some handmade jewelry or pottery. I know Ithaca is not that exotic, but every time I go the experience is surreal. I only go in the summer when the sun is shining, because the winters can be brutal. Also, in the summer, I was able to rent boats and kayaks and spend a lot of time swimming in the lake. I tried water skiing, but that proved to be much more difficult than I had imagined! I’ve been to Caribbean islands before, and although they are beautiful, I so much more enjoy the serenity that comes with Ithaca, NY. The lake is almost like a well kept secret. It is never crowded, and never touristy. It is just plain beautiful. |
