The Riu Resorts, Puerto Vallarta

The Riu Resorts in Puerto Vallarta Last year for Christmas, instead of shelling out loads of cash for consumer novelties, my family decided to hit the air and spend the money on a vacation. The winter had already been colder than any previous winter we'd experienced, so it was going to be a good one. And, it was. Fresh off the plane, we went to our resort. A five star behemoth of a palace was one of the Riu Resorts in Nuevo Vallarta. It had everything from twin swimming pools, all you can eat Mexican food, drinks, the works. Any all inclusive place has it, and why not? Live like a king for a week! Of course you can stay forever at one of these resorts, but I decided to explore. First up was a whale watching excursion on a sailboat followed by some snorkeling at the Marianas Islands. The most fantastic thing about the nano trip besides the cost was that I learned an extraordinary deal about the Islands by the instructor. Most species on it are only found there and on the Galapagos! Very cool. Next I walked to Bucarias. It was much longer than I intended on walking while on vacation, but the view was enough to keep me occupied on my stroll. Now, compared the upbeat touristy nature of Vallarta, Bucarias was a nice laid back treat; minimal cars, a few donkeys, kids running around playing in the street and cobblestones roads. It reminded me of the Mexico you see in movies. Finally, I drank a lot. Many of the people I found living in Vallarta working at the hotels are not local, but know how to have a great time. Tips well, be open, and I'm sure they'll show you how to get down in a foreign land.
