You first need to make a packing list of things you need to bring on your trip such as below.

sneakers

sandal

underwear

Socks

Shorts

Pants

Shirts

Toiletries & sunscreen

Camera

Maps or GPS

Cell phone.

Passport

There are many different style bags to choose but I can get everything from my packing list into a 22x14x9 whick is the max permitted for a carry-on.

When I pack my bag, I gather all my items from my packing list and place them on the bed. The clothing I roll tp for two Reasons. It creates more space and it keeps your clothes from getting wrinkle.
